CBC Radio One Live Audio Streams

Update Aug 2019


All CBC radio streams are now no longer available.

CBC Stream URLs ended/stopped working/unavailable as of Aug 2019

Radio One Stream URLs as of Aug 2016
CBC Radio released new audio streaming urls as of Aug 2016. 
However, all of the MP3 streams below are streamed at sub-standard 48 Kbps bitrate.

"Going from 64 kbps to 128 kbps (internet standard) adds more important data than going from 128 kbps to 192 kbps"  A informative article on Slate to explains bitrate(kbps) in relation to audio quality. 

Good news the streams work natively for Windows Media Player, for the first time, which great news. 

Update: Still working in 2018.


Open Windows Media Player, and press keys simultaneously CTRL u to play.

    Hi There, I found this page while googling for what the new CBC Radio1 stream links are. It seems about a week ago ( August 20, 2016 ) they broke or got rid of all the high-bandwidth stream URL-links and replaced them with something else ( CBC_R1_VIC_H.pls , for example. ) 

    I know the high bitrate streams are still there, I can play them from inside the TuneIn app on my Android and I-Phone phone apps, it seems to be a new 100 kbps AAC stream (?? odd codec choice, but OK) . Great quality, but I cannot play it on my Logictech Squeezebox radio or desktop computers at home!  If you have any info on what the new direct URL links are to the Hi-Q CBC Radio1 streams, please let me know!

      Hi Stephan, perhaps you missed my update, but I noticed that as well and updated the post. CBC has consolidate music streams and offers only 1 endpoint now, and we are stuck at a bitrate of 48 Kbps. But it works in Windows Media player now!

    As of 7 September 2016, none of the CBC 1 .pls files are working, including those listed here; the only valid URL I've found is that terrible 48k stream. (Thanks for that, by the way.) I've also had no luck mining site html for a better one. If anybody finds a CBC stream URL that's 2016 quality, please post it here. 

    On an editorial note, this shell game is embarrassing from our national network. Commercial stations pull this kind of malarkey as part of ill-conceived revenue-generating schemes, but why a government service would play hide-the-stream is beyond me.
